The "Broken Wand" is a special ceremony conducted for a
deceased magician in which a wand is broken to symbolize the
loss of magical power. The symbolism is that without the man,
the wand no longer has the magic and so it is broken. First
conducted by the Society of American Magicians at Harry
Houdini's memorial service in 1926.
